I've checked the fwversion and it says (2), so I'd like to update to 5.

But you say not to update if you're using Win with Asebastudio 1.2. I've installed the latest, 1.2.1, is that ok or do I have to wait for even a newer, like 1.3?

If you just received the robot it's already the latest firmware version. No need to update it :) Only robots received in the beginning of 2012 had an older version.

Normally it should be version 5.
I think you confuse and look that fwversion[2] is a buffer. But the value is in fwversion[0], just click on the triangle next fwversion and it will unroll the buffer.
