Thymio doesn't connect with the dongle, can't start vpl programm any morem

Our brandnew Thymio connected very well with our Windows 10 laptop and was so cool! We used it last time last sunday and it was great. Wireless worked aswell as connection by USB cable. Now suddenly, no connection is possible in no way. I reinstalled the Thymio/aseba-software, but this did not help. The wireless stick isn't recognized by my laptop and I can't open anymore the vpl programm.
Otherwise thymio works correctly, it does charge and I can play with the pre-programmed behaviours.

What can we do? Please help. Thanks. dodah

Good day
A friend of mine, he is a software engineer, helped me yesterday. He checked a lot of aspects, like firewall, firmupgrader, function of the dongle and of thymio, the connection of the dongle to thymio, the webbridge, we deinstalled and reinstalled asebe 1.6, we checked the infos on the forum and on githup and he really couldn't solve the problem, altough he worked three hours on it. At last, we installed aseba 1.5.5, so my son can use thymio for VPL. But I guess, he can't use Thymio blockly.
If you have a good idea to help me, I'd be really happy.
Thymio also worked on the laptop of my friend, where also windows 10 is installed. We have no idea, why aseba 1.6. doesn't work anymore on my really brandnew laptop.

I am sorry, I am not sure I got all information correctly.
On your computer, with Aseba 1.6, Thymio does not connect with the cable and not wireless dongle, is that right? But it used to work and stopped suddenly?
On your computer, with Aseba 1.5.5, Thymio connects with both the cable and with the wireless dongle, but Blockly is not working?

And on your friend's laptop, also windows 10, everything works?

do you get any error message? do not hesitate to share screenshots if you think anything could help.

Thank you for considering my post.
On my new computer, with Aseba 1.6., I think (!), Thymio doesn't connect with the cable, nor with the wireless dongle. Fact is, we couldn't open VPL and use ist. As I'm not a specialiste, it's hard to know, what the problem really is, even my friend couldn't finally figure it out as I asked him.
And this is correct, Thymio worked the 4th and 6th of may 2018 and 4 days later not any more.

On my new computer, with Aseba 1.5.5, Thymio connects correctly and sorry, Blockly is also working, there, I was wrong.

Yes, at my friend's laptop, also windows 10, everything works with Aseba 1.6.
Unfortunately, we didn't get any error message. My friend was surprised by that,too. And unfortunately, I can't send you any screenshots.

At my very old laptop, I couldn't install Aseba 1.6., either.

I am not sue what causes this problem, but let's try a few things.
The main difference between 1.5.5 and 1.6 that could be linked to your case is in the way the interface searches for Thymio. For some reason the new auto discovery feature does not discover Thymio. Maybe the driver is somehow not configured correctly.

Can you connect your robot with the cable, open Device Manager (right-click on the start menu icon and it should be in the choices), then unfold the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" list and tell me what is listed there?

OK, so Thymio is not listed here in your devices. I think it might be a driver problem, your computer does not use the correct driver; I think that the "USB-Verbundgerät" in the list is actually Thymio.

You can check this by actually unplugging / replugging the dongle, and the "USB-Verbundgerät" should disappear, reappear at the same time.
Once this is sure, you have to choose the right driver. Right-click on the "USB-Verbundgerät", choose "update the pilot".
Then choose "look for the pilot on my computer".
Browse to select "Aseba folder" (Program Files x86/AsebaStudio) and click on "choose from a list of device drivers on my computer".
Finally, choose "THymio-II" from the list and click "next". The driver will be installed.

You will have to do this twice: once for the cable and once for the dongle.

If USB-Verbundgerät is NOT Thymio, the try to connect it on another USB port, avoid using hubs and similar devices.
