Thymio II as Christmas sleigh

Some cardboard permits to create a nice animation based on the Thymio II robot.

Here you can see how to make a Christmas sleigh that can be started, oriented toward left or right and stopped in a very intuitive and interactive way. Once done, you can decorate it and make a wonderful Christmas animation. The behaviour used in this animation is a basic behavior, the green "friendly" behavior.

Here some pictures of the handiwork:

Santa Claus can move back and forth:

Santa Claus is linked with a bar to a part placed in front of the Thymio II robot. By moving Santa Claus you move the part that is detected by the sensors of Thymio II:

How to build all this:

  • Print the two models (1 and 2) at the larger possible scale on A4 cardboard (240g/m2 in this model).
  • Cut out the several parts
  • Fold on the dashed lines
  • Stick together the two main parts
  • Stick together the two sides of Santa Claus
  • Make holes where they are indicated (feet and hands of Santa Claus, on the Santa Claus seat, on the back feet and the muzzle of the reindeer, 4 holes on the mobile part and 3 on the bar.

The holes on the muzzle of the reindeer and the central one on the bar can be connected with a decorative string.

  • Assemble the mobile parts: the central mobile part, Santa Claus and the bar linking them.
  • Assemble the whole on the Thymio II, fixing it on the pencil hole. The two sleigh shapes can be fixed on the side.
  • Switch on Thymio II on the friendly green mode.
  • Move Santa Claus and the animation will begin!

Look, even the real Santa Claus used Thymio II to get some help…
